BIOGRAPHY: He lived in Los Angeles with his parents until their divorce. Then he and his sister moved to Toronto, Ontario, Canada with their mother. At 9 yrs., he appeared on stage for the first time in a production called "Throne of Straw". Kiefer was on the track team in high school; he was one of Ontario's top runners, yet he dropped out of school at age 15 to persue a career in acting. He had performed in a number of stage productions. He made his film debut as a walk-on named "Bill" in "Max Dugan Returns" (1983) which starred his father. Kiefer attended various private schools. At the age of 16, three years before he was due to graduate Kiefer dropped out of school and moved to Toronto where he moved in with a musician friend for the next 8 month. In 1984, he earned his first starring role in "The Bay Boy", a coming-of-age drama. His performance earned him great critical acclaim, as well as a nomination for a Gene Award, the Canadian equivalent of the Academy Awards 'Best Actor. He attended a number of auditions in New York but more often than not returned to Canada to get work. After finally getting a job in a jeans commercial Kiefer at the age of 17 was able to buy himself a car and return to California. Finding life tough he found himself having to sleep in the car to save money. A lucky break came along in the successful Stephen Speilberg series Amazing Stories,with Kiefer alongside Casey Siemasko in a episode titled "The Mission". He also managed to get himself a bit part in Sean Penn's movie "At Close Range(1986)". "Trapped in Silence(1986)" was Kiefers next movie in which he played a troubled teen who refuses to speak to great effect. In his next film "Stand by Me(1986)" Kiefer played bully Ace Merrill terrorizing the local teens.The film was a great success and earned Kiefer great respect as a serious actor. "The Brotherhood Of Justice(1986)" saw Kiefer playing the good guy up against Keanu Reeves gang of vigilantes. Kiefer returned to Canada for his next movie "Crazy Moon(1986)", a off-beat love story starring Vanessa Vaughn. A total different change of role came next in the thriller "The Killing Time(1987)" with Kiefer portraying a psychotic drifter with also co-starred and was produced by Camelia Kath. Despite the fact that she was 12 years his senior and had a 11 year old daughter from a previous marriage, Kiefer found himself attracted to her and the couple soon found themselves living together. Eventually getting married a year later. |
